Oraimo Riff Earbuds Review: Should You Buy?

Unboxing

The Oraimo Riff comes in four different colours – White, Black, Red and Green to choose from but we love the BLACK colour. Why? You asked ?! This is because black earbuds case are known to retain their looks and hide scratches after a long period of time. We know you won’t want your earbuds look dirty or somehow after one month or two. The package is minimal but the box is really nice. In other words, it is not as packaged as the more expensive and premium earbuds from Oraimo. These are the contents you will find in the box:

  • Oraimo Riff
  • Short USB C Cable
  • User Guide
  • Two Ear Tips in Different Sizes (Small and Large)

Design and Build Quality

oraimo riff specsThe Oraimo Riff comes in a very small plastic carry case which will fit in any pocket or bag. It comes with a glossy finish that makes it prone to catching stains and fingerprints. In order to preserve its glossy case, please get a porch for it. It goes for about 700 Nigerian Naira depending on your location. The buds are stem style and they have touch controls that we will explain more in a bit.

You can wear them for long periods without any ear fatigue. There are some ear tips in the box that you can use in case the default one doesn’t fit into your ear snuggly. Once you have the right fit they will isolate noise coming from outside. This is when you will think it has the noise cancellation feature. There is an Oraimo logo at the front and the earbud charge via a USB C port located under the case. The Oraimo Riff Earbud also comes with a reset button and LED light indicator that notifies you when it’s charging.

Oraimo Riff Earbuds Review – Sound Quality

One of the first things you will notice once the music starts playing from the earbud is the punchy bass. It isn’t on the same level as the more expensive Oraimo earbuds but it’s noticeable. The earbuds do well in separating vocals and instrumentals, and you could hear individual strings while playing some music. We mostly listened to Afro beats music with the buds during our testing and we were impressed. The mids and lows are noticeable but they can be flat at times.

It can be a perfect earbud for listening to podcasts and streaming videos. The latency was minimal and I was impressed because of its price. It has a wide soundstage and I am sure no one will have any problems listening to music or watching content with the buds. There are some aspects of sound that are difficult to express in written content. Using one is the sure way to experience this crystal clear audio quality from these little guys.

Connectivity & Touch Controls of the Oraimo Riff

oraimo riff controlThe Oraimo Riff comes with AAC and SBC audio codecs. Whichever device you might be using to listen to music supports either of the audio codecs. This means that you will listen to the highest quality sounds because of the codecs. The earbud supports Bluetooth 5.0 which is kind of a lot down, but then only the higher-end Oraimo earbuds support Bluetooth 5.2. The bluetooth 5.0 will still work well, anyways.

It is a master-slave earbud which means the left earbud follows the lead of the right one. Latency is minimal in some cases but there are times when it is noticeable. You can connect the earbud to your laptop, tablet, Android, or iPhone. It takes less than one minute to pair and subsequent pairings after the first one takes just seconds.

Oraimo Riff Touch Controls:

The earbud has touch controls using the stem, you can tap on the stem for the following functions:

  • Two taps on the left or right earbud to play or pause music
  • Tap twice on the right or left earbud to answer or end calls
  • Long press on the right or left bud to change the track or go back to the previous track
  • Tap three times to call on Google Assistant or Siri depending on what you are using

The touch controls work just fine and my only wish is that they were easier. It might be difficult at the start but once you get used to it then it’s a smooth sail. All you need is to commit these commands to your memory.

Call Quality

You will enjoy making calls with the earbud and the receiver will hear you clearly. The Oraimo Riff earbuds also allow you to record voice notes and audio too. There are 2 Environmental noise cancelling (ENC) mics on the earbud that handle this function well. So, if you are in a bit noisy environment, the 2 mics will effectively suppress the noise making the person you are talking to hear every conversation loud and clear. It is definitely not the best but it’s decent. You also have to remember what you paid for the earbud. You can make calls for long periods of time and the quality level will remain the same.

Battery Life

The battery has gotten so good with wireless earbuds nowadays and every brand is getting it right. You are guaranteed to get 4 hours of listening time with the Oraimo Riffs TWS at 90%. We know that 90% is very high. We did that for testing purpose only. So, if you listen at a lower volume like 50% then you will get more hours. The earbuds come with 35 mAh and the carry case comes with 300 mAh. You can recharge the earbuds at least three times with the charging case. If you combine the case and buds together you are guaranteed to get over 18 hours of listening time. With that, the battery is good and four hours is more than enough to listen to any music or watch any movie.
