The Freepods series has been one of Oraimo’s most popular product lines. The series comes with different earbuds at different price ranges. The top earbuds in this series are the Oraimo Freepods Pro, since it was released about two years ago, the headphones have caught a lot of attention from users and have been tagged one of the best Oraimo earbuds to date. Recently, Oraimo updated the series and has added the Oraimo Freepods Pro+ to the collection. In this post, we will be taking a quick look at the Freepods Pro Plus, what it has to offer, and what has been upgraded.
Design And Build
I will start by saying am a little disappointed in the design, I was expecting a bit of tweak in the design or a little upgrade, but it isn’t there. The Freepod Pro+ has the same design as the Freepods Pro. You get the same shiny metallic-looking surface, a button at the front of the case, and the Oraimo brand name in gold print at the front of the case. The charging port is underneath the case. It comes with a protective case that helps prevent the surface from scratches, so nothing new on the case.
The earbuds are seen-styled earbuds too with the same design as the Pro version. The same glossy metallic surface, also nothing new here. Though Freepods Pro+ sits nicely in the ear canals and is quite comfortable to wear for extended periods. The case is also pocket-friendly. Lastly, it features an IPX5 waterproof rating which makes it resistant to splashes and sweat. To me, nothing is special about the design. If you love the design of the Freepods Pro, you love this too, since they both have the same design.
Sound Quality
Oraimo didn’t disclose the size of the drivers the Freepods Pro+ comes with, but we suspect it will feature the same size as the one you get on the Freepods Pro. We all know that the Pro version has a punchy bass quality and produces a nice sound without any form of distortion even at a high volume.
In that aspect, the Pro+ didn’t disappoint, it has a thumping bass quality and comes with a suitable design for bass lovers. The mids and high frequencies are more detailed and crisp. Also, the earbuds satisfy those who pay more details to vocals and instruments. Furthermore, you can tweak the sound quality if you don’t like the pre-installed sound profile using the sound app.
The Oraimo Freepods Pro+ comes with an inbuilt sensitive sensor that detects if you have the earbuds on or not. If you take the earbuds off, it automatically pauses the music playback and when you put them back on, it resumes play. This is one key feature that makes the Freepods Pro+ stand out and helps prolong the battery life of the earphones.
Active Noise Cancellation
Just like the Freepods Pro, the Pro+ comes with Active Noise Cancellation. This helps to effectively cancel out external noise and helps upgrade your listening experience. On average it can cancel out noise of up to about 45dB which helps to give you a crystal clear sound. You can also fine-tune the noise cancellation depth by using the Oraimo sound app.
As you know, these earbuds are bass-based and we need transparency mode when walking on the street or in a conversation with someone. So these earbuds come with a smart chat mode, with this, you don’t need to switch the transparency mode yourself. Once the earbuds detect a noise from your mouth, it quickly switch mode.
These sounds include coughing, swallowing, chewing, and more. I sometimes don’t like it because I catch cool easily, so a little cough will just change the mode which can be annoying sometimes. You can activate or deactivate this mode using the sound app.
On call quality, the earbuds feature four microphones, Environmental Noise Cancellation, and Al deep Neural Network algorithm. All these features help to eliminate the noise around and give you a crystal clear quality. The earbuds are good for making both video and audio calls.
Bluetooth Connection, Low Latency, And Controls
The Pro+ comes with Bluetooth 5.4 which is the latest Bluetooth version in the market. This helps further provide a stable and seamless connection with your devices. Also, it supports dual connection, which means you can connect the earbuds to two devices and use them simultaneously. Still, on connection, it supports ‘Google Fast Pairing’, which means it establishes a pop-up notification connection on any Google-supported device.
This helps save the stress of reconnection, just open the buds and you get a pop-up notification on your phone screen, hit pair, and the connection is established. The earbuds come with SBC and AAC codecs which makes them widely compatible with most devices.
It also features a low latency mode which you can activate on the sound app. The low latency helps the earbuds to sync audio and video in seconds. With this, you can emerge yourself in the world of gaming. However, when you use them for high graphics gaming you might encounter some lags. For video streaming, they work perfectly well.
Apart from the usual touch controls, you can control music by intuitive wide-are taps on your ears. With this, you don’t have to physically control or tap on the earbuds which is a big upgrade for me. You can activate this on the sound app and check the user guide to see how to use the intuitive control features.
Battery Performance
With ANC on you get a battery life of 9 hours on the earbuds, however, if you turn them off, you get up to 12 hours of playtime on a single charge. The carrying case comes with a battery capacity of 510mAh which further boosts the battery life of the earbuds. The Freepods Pro+ has an impressive battery life and this could be one of its selling points.
Price And Availability
The Freepods Pro+ is currently available in Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana. As of the time of writing, you can get the earbuds in Nigeria for ₦ 69,000 and those in Kenya can get it for KES 5,500. Please don’t forget to use the discount code BRACKET to get a 5% discount on any Oraimo products.
Final Words
The Oraimo Freepods Pro+ is a worthy upgrade. It improves in almost every aspect. It features an improved ANC and upgraded Bluetooth version 5.4, and it is now compatible with the Oraimo sound app. Also, it supports dual connection, smart chat mode, ear sensitive sensor and to wrap it, a better battery life. I recommend these earphones for those in search of budget-friendly high performing earbuds and those who want to upgrade their earbuds.
